Although many builders treat the smart home automation just as crucial as plumbing or HVAC is their build, there are still others who say why I should spend thousands when I can turn my lights on and off manually? Or play my music from a stand-alone speaker?

Well, the answer to this concern, not only goes back to the era we live in but also to the standards and expectations of the final user. In many cases, even if you know the first owner’s approach towards new technologies, you can not possibly have a clue about what would be the next owner’s approach in ten years. So, the first issue is the resale value:

Resale value:

Often our customers ask if I spend 50K on a Crestron or Control4 System can I sell it 50k more? The honest answer from many of the realtors which we have spoken to is NO! Just like if you spend 10K on the most luxurious facets in every single bathroom, that does not necessarily mean that the investment will be returned. However, one thing that almost all Toronto realtors agree on is that a home with more technologies such as smart home automation is much more likely to be sold versus one without them in a short period. That’s what’s called indirect resale value. Imagine listing two properties in one location side by side, and both are listed at the same price. The floor plans and primary material used is almost identical, but one has lots of new technologies, and the other doesn’t. If your property is sold right away or it’s sold with being five months in the market, that’s a big financial difference!

Nature of Technology

While one can state that I can turn down all my shades done manually, that is true almost about many of the gadgets and technologies we use today. Remember the good old days when in -30 degrees we had to park our cars, open the garage door manually, get back to the car and park it, and close the garage door?

It seems like these days no one thinks that’s an option! Technology not only enhances our life quality but also makes us safer.

Too many devices, a big headache!

Some of our clients who already possess some DIY devices in their home, tell us that they have to play with five applications to get the lights, security, shades, thermostat, gas valve, etc. to adjust them. That’s like going to a restaurant with ingredients here and there and being forced to find the oven and cook your meal.

Dana Smart Homes believes in a home technology ecosystem. These ecosystems are not made of picked and chosen devices off Home Depot, but instead, they come from brands that specialize in creating the ecosystem such as Control4 and Crestron.

When you let us install a technology that integrates all available technologies around the house, you no longer need to look for the ingredients! The meal is ready in front of you.
